In recent years, there has been a constant rave surrounding tech. The tech industry is now seen as highly lucrative, so much so that there’s this continuous organic discussion on why everyone should learn how to code.

With software engineers earning an average of 2.8 million Naira per year, they are commonly said to be the top earners in tech and even among the 1% when compared to other careers.

However, while software engineers are raking in huge chunks of money, there are career paths within tech that pay even more. In this article, we have put together some fascinating insights on three tech jobs that pay more than software engineering.

Product Managers

Product managers identify customer needs and business objectives and ensure that a product is designed to fulfill these needs and objectives adequately. They lead teams, work hand-in-hand with the engineering, marketing, sales, and support teams and make strategic product decisions, to develop a unique product.

Glassdoor reports that the average product manager in Nigeria earns 250,000 per month, which adds up to 3 million Naira per year. This estimate was made by analyzing over 200 salary reports from product managers across the country. As one can imagine, the average product manager can’t code. As a matter of fact, they are not required to.

Data Engineers

Data engineers design and build systems that collect, store and analyze data. They employ programming, machine learning, and big data tools to build systems that collect and convert raw data into useful information that data scientists and business analysts can interpret.

Ultimately, their primary role is to make data accessible for businesses to evaluate their performance. As the world continues to produce about 2.5 quintillion bytes of data each day, the demand for data engineers will continue to hit the roof.

So it is no surprise that Salary Explorer reports an average monthly salary of 316,000 Naira for data engineers. This adds up to about 3.8 million Naira per month, which is much more than the average wage for software engineers.

Information Technology Managers

Information technology managers take home the largest sum on this list. According to PayScale, information technology managers earn an average of 4.9 million Naira annually. While they don’t spend a lot of time writing code for this role, they need a considerable amount of technical experience to succeed in it.

Also known as CTOs or IT directors, IT managers guide an organization’s technological direction by managing network security, coordinating online operations, and developing business plans. Their primary responsibility is to generate value by leveraging technology. To do this effectively, they must stay up to date on the latest technology, separating the hype from the real deal.

Conclusion

So, while software engineers are definitely earning a whole lot of cash, if you’re considering a new role or career path that pays high, you can consider these! It is important to note that salary rates differ by location. However, salaries in this article cut across multiple analyses and research and should give a pretty accurate look at things in the industry.
